Presenter Biographies
Yayne-abeba Aklilu is currently working as a senior atmospheric scientist at Alberta Environment and Parks. Yayne has worked in the air quality field for over 15 years. She is an alumnus of York University, Ontario where she earned her PhD and University of Alberta where she earned her undergraduate degree.
David Spink, M.Sc., P.Eng. is an environmental engineer. He started his career with Environment Canada and then worked for Alberta Environment for 26 years in several different technical and managerial positions. For the last 18 years he has worked as an independent consultant primarily for First Nations and Metis Communities with a focus on oil sands development related air quality management issues. He is one of the Non-government Organization Board Members of the Clean Air Strategic Alliance (CASA) and has been involved in many CASA Projects. He, along with Yayne-abebe Aklilul of Alberta Environment and Parks, co-chaired the recent CASA “Impact of Reduced Transportation on Air Quality” Project.
Dr. Kevin McCullum is a senior environmental engineer and the Data Manager for WCAS and ACA. Kevin holds a Ph.D. and M.Sc. in Environmental Engineering from the University of Alberta, with specialties in Ambient Air Quality and River Water Quality. Kevin was part of the Environmental Protection and Planning Committee (EPPC) of the Canadian Council of Ministers of the Environment (CCME) during the inception of the Air Quality Management System (AQMS) which included the updates to the Canadian Ambient Air Quality Standards (CAAQS). He has work much of his career in the air monitoring field working with air zones throughout western Canada, focusing on air quality data analysis and interpretation, monitoring instrumentation, as well as dispersion and transport modeling. Kevin also works closely with universities working collaboratively with University of Alberta, University of Regina, and First Nations University and has a passion to deliver partnerships and monitoring research capabilities.For more information
